The first three days of class are gone and we have reason to think that this is going to be an excellent school year just by looking how good you all are. As we start the second week of school, it is necessary to remember the expectations we have for this school year:
- Increased Academic Rigor. The term “Academic Rigor” is defined in the glossary of Education Reform (http://edglossary.org/rigor) as “instruction, schoolwork, learning experiences, and educational expectations that are academically, intellectually, and personally challenging.” We expect you to challenge students to do their best.
- Make of the most of instructional time: the wise use of instructional time is one of the factors that has a bigger impact on academic achievement.
- Maintain a positive class environment: the use of classroom management strategies (such as CHAMP) helps teachers maximize learning and minimize interruptions. Carmen and I are here to support you, but the teacher in front of the class is the “first response team” to deal with disciplinary issues.
The school has put together an Instructional Coaching program in order to help you in your work.We are very happy to count on Crista as a full time mentor for our teachers. Contact her if you need help.
I wish you the best this year.
