Instructions for Report Card Day

By Crista Hirmas

This Friday is the first report card day of the year.   There will be no classes, but it will be a normal work day from 7:20 to 3:05 p.m.  During this time, you will meet with the parents of your advisory students to distribute report cards.

IMPORTANT:  The format of the meeting is student-led conferences.  This means students will be responsible for explaining their goals, report card grades and portfolio for the first quarter.  Teachers can prompt students with questions, but students should do the majority of the talking.

Who should I ask if I need help on report card day?

Mr. Loaiza and Mencho will be at a principal’s conference in Medellin on Friday.  Please ask Crista for informational help.  If you need an administrator, please contact Milagros or Jaime Urazán.

When will I receive report cards?  / ¿Cuándo recibiré los reportes de notas?

When you arrive at school on Friday  morning, please report to the secondary office.  Marthica will give you:

1.  Report cards for your advisory group
2.  A roster / sign-in sheet with appointment times for each family

How should I dress?  / ¿Cómo debo de vestirme?

Professional.  Men should wear collared shirt and tie.  Women should wear professional dress, skirt or pants.

Vestido profesional.

What time do I meet with each parent?

Marthica will give you a sign-in sheet that includes appointment times for each parent and student.  You will have some time between appointments to work on other things.

What if a parent come without his or her child to pick up report cards?

If a parent comes without his or her child, please politely inform them that because of school policy, you are not allowed to hand out a report card without a student-led conference.  Schedule a mutually convenient time to meet with parent for next week.

What if there is no report card for a certain student?

Check the list with appointment times.  If the name is highlighted, most likely the parent needs to go to the Accounting Office to take care of payment.  Please refer the parent to the accounting office.

What do the green and blue flags on certain report cards mean?  /¿Qué significan las banderitas verdes o azules?

Congratulate the student!  Report cards with green and blue flags mean that the student earned a higher overall average.    Blue flags are the highest averages.

What do I do at the end of the day?  /  ¿Qué hago al final del día?

Turn in the sign-in sheet and any report cards that have not been picked up to the secondary office.

And last, but still important … when is lunch  ☺ ?    /  Por último, pero importante  ☺ … ¿a qué hora almorzamos?

Every teacher will be able to eat lunch between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

HALLOWEEN 2016

Celebration: Children’s Day (Halloween)
Date: Friday, October 28th 2016
Theme: Movies.

Halloween

Juniors’ choreography 2015

Guidelines:

Students have to prepare:
1. A 10-minute activity to entertain small children from preschool and elementary In the Classroom. (ideas: puppets, magic shows, songs, games, circle activities, etc.)
2. A 3 minute group dance (by class or by level) to be presented at the coliseum in front of the student body.

Teachers are expected to:

  1. Decorate their classroom door (there will be a surprise for the best decoration).
  2. Accompany students in their activities, help them plan, organize, and perform.
  3. Make of this event a teachable moment and a learning opportunity for the kids.

Not permitted: Themes connected somehow to violence (guerrilla, paramilitary, terrorists, and the like), sexual topics (gays, prostitutes, and so forth), and/or religious symbols, are not allowed.  Music should be school appropriate (songs may not include profanity, or reference to violence or sexual topics. Avoid Reggaeton, please).

Recommendations:

Students should make their own costumes or use what they find at home (we do not want parents to invest a lot of money on costumes or dance teachers). Students should use their creativity to design their choreography.

Contest:

Coreographies will be judged according to the following criteria:

  • Proportion of students in the dance.
  • Number of adults that participate with the students.
  • Creativity in costume design
  • Organization, behavior and cleaning.
  • Coordination of the group in the dance

JOB SHADOWING

Job Shadowing

20140305_083029_i-29n“Job shadowing is an activity in which youth gain an up-close look at the world of work by accompanying a professional or professionals in the workplace as they do their work. Job shadowing provides an opportunity to see firsthand what tasks a professional does, to learn what skills and knowledge it takes to do the tasks, and to get a feel for what the work environment and routine is like. Job shadowing may be a one-on-one activity, in which one youth is paired with one professional, or it can be a group activity in which a small group of youth accompanies the professional. While a job shadowing experience may be as short as a few hours, a half-day to full-day opportunity is ideal and some job shadowing experiences last for more than one day. A longer job shadowing experience ensures that youth have enough time to get familiar with the work environment, meet various people who work there, and learn about the work that they do. It also provides a chance for the youth to observe the professional who is being shadowed and his/her co-workers completing a range of tasks.” (http://www.ncwd-youth.info/innovative-strategies/practice-briefs/career-exploration-in-action)

Seniors 2017 will be doing these visits this month. You may see the schedule of their visits here:
