AMIS TOOL TO BE USED AT GI

The GI School will use the AMIS tool in order to improve the climate and discipline at school. This tool is based on an algorithm used to better predict behaviors in a population. A survey is given to the students in order to identify situations like bullying, and other social and psychological tendencies. This tool is supported by Colciencias and MinTIC.

Before Tuesday,

Ask students to bring a broomstick (just the stick, not the broom), and 2-3 lt. soda Bottles, a screwdriver, and screws, glue, paper to decorate doors. Have everything ready in your classroom. (think that maintenance people will not be available for you). Adriana Rocha will give you some of these materials.

Purpose: to make one lantern per every two students you advise.  Example: If you advise 17 students, make 8 or 9 lanterns. If you can make more, it’s ok. and get your door decorated.

  1. Arrive at school by 10:30 am. Get ready for class at 11:10 (First class period according to schedule)
  2. At 12:10 Middle school teachers and students go to lunch. High school teachers and students continue with the 2nd class period.
  3. At 1:00 pm, Middle school students go to class (third class period)
  4. At 1:15 pm. High school students go to eat lunch.
  5. At 2:00 pm. Everybody goes to the third class period.
  6. LANTERNS – TENTS AND DOORS:  At 3:05 pm – Advisors meet their advisees to make the lanterns and decorate their doors. Collect materials and look for a place where you can control the activity. All students should be involved. See instructions to make the lanterns in https://youtu.be/bLYall04KIs . At the same time, SOME students who belong to interest groups will go to prepare the sales at the tents. The interest groups authorized to sell are:
  1. STUCO – Camila Mejía C.
  2. NHS – David Serna H.
  3. MUSICAL – Gabriel Jaramillo T.
  4. GIMUN – Sofía Botero N.
  5. ARTS FEST – Andrés Mugnier Z.
  6. Middle school HOUSES captains
  7. SENIOR reps.

The rest of the group members will work on the lanterns.Also, assign a couple of students to decorate your classroom door.

  1. 4:00 pm. – Once you finish, go to install the lanterns in the assigned spot. A map with these assignations will be posted in the teachers’ lounge.
  2. 4:30 – Students will go to “recess” so they can start buying stuff from the tents. We need to walk around to maintain control. Students may play in the fields if they want.
  3. 5:00 Parents will arrive at school.
  4. 5:15 – Ask students to go to the coliseum.
  5. 5:30 – We should all be at the coliseum to participate of the concert.
  6. 6:30 – We all go to the Middle school building to see its inauguration.
  7. 7:00 to 8:00 – Share with the community.

Instructions for Report Card Day

This Friday is the first report card day of the year.   There will be no classes, but it will be a normal work day from 7:20 to 3:05 p.m.  During this time, you will meet with the parents of your advisory students to distribute report cards.  

 IMPORTANT:  The format of the meeting is student-led conferences.  This means students will be responsible for explaining their goals, report card grades and portfolio for the first quarter.  Teachers can prompt students with questions, but students should do the majority of the talking.

Este viernes es la primera entrega de notas del año.  No habrá clases, pero es una jornada normal de 7:20 a 3:05 p.m.  Durante este tiempo, cada profesor se reunirá con los padres y estudiantes de su ADVISORY para entregar notas del periodo.  

 IMPORTANTE:  El estudiante deberá guiar la entrega de notas.  Es importante que el estudiante se haga responsable por explicar sus metas, notas y trabajo en el portafolio.  Los profes pueden apoyar a los estudiantes haciéndoles preguntas, pero los estudiantes deben de hacer la mayoría de la presentación.

Who should I ask if I need help on report card day?   /   ¿A quíén puedo acudir por ayuda el día de entrega de notas?

Mr. Loaiza and Mencho will be at a principal’s conference in Medellin on Friday.  Please ask Crista for informational help.  If you need an administrator, please contact Milagros or Jaime Urazán.

When will I receive report cards?  / ¿Cuándo recibiré los reportes de notas?

When you arrive at school on Friday  morning, please report to the secondary office.  Marthica will give you:

1.  Report cards for your advisory group
2.  A roster / sign-in sheet with appointment times for each family

Cuando llegan al colegio el viernes, pueden recoger los reportes de nota en la oficina de secundaria.  Marthica les entregará:

1.  Los reportes para su grupo de advisory
2.  Una lista – hoja para que los papás firmen que incluye la hora que deben llegar para la cita. 

How should I dress?  / ¿Cómo debo de vestirme?

Professional.  Men should wear collared shirt and tie.  Women should wear professional dress, skirt or pants.

Vestido profesional. Se recomienda para los caballeros camisa de vestir y corbata.  Para mujeres, vestidos, faldas o pantalón profesional.

What time do I meet with each parent?  /   ¿Cuándo me reuno con cada papá y estudiante?

Marthica will give you a sign-in sheet that includes appointment times for each parent and student.  You will have some time between appointments to work on other things.

Marthica les entregará una lista de estudiantes que los papás deben de firmar que incluye la hora de cada cita.

What if a parent come without his or her child to pick up report cards?     /  ¿Qué pasa si llega un padre sin su hijo(a)?

If a parent comes without his or her child, please politely inform them that because of school policy, you are not allowed to hand out a report card without a student-led conference.  Schedule a mutually convenient time to meet with parent for next week.

Si padres llegan sin su hijo(a), cortésmente informarle que por políticas del colegio, no se permite entregar el reporte si no está presente el estudiante. El profesor tendrá que citar al papá en una hora mútuamente conveniente para los dos para la próxima semana. 

What if there is no report card for a certain student?

Check the list with appointment times.  If the name is highlighted, most likely the parent needs to go to the Accounting Office to take care of payment.  Please refer the parent to the accounting office.

Revise la lista con las horas de las citas con papás.  Si el nombre del estudiante está resaltado, el padre necesita ir a Contabilidad para hacer un pago. Por favor mandar al papá a contabilidad.

What do the green and blue flags on certain report cards mean?  /¿Qué significan las banderitas verdes o azules?

Congratulate the student!  Report cards with green and blue flags mean that the student earned a higher overall average.    Blue flags are the highest averages.

¡Felicita al estudiante!  Reportes con banderitas verdes o azules significan que el estudiante logró un promedio alto.  Las banderitas azules significan los promedios más altos.

What do I do at the end of the day?  /  ¿Qué hago al final del día?

Turn in the sign-in sheet and any report cards that have not been picked up to the secondary office.

Entrega la lista que los papás firmaron con cualquier reporte que no fue entregado a la oficina de secundaria.

And last, but still important … when is lunch  ☺ ?    /  Por último, pero importante  ☺ … ¿a qué hora almorzamos?

Every teacher will be able to eat lunch between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.
